Gromm searched the newly discovered secret door for traps and found none. Opening it, he discovered he had been mistaken.
A huge explosion smote the characters as Gromm opened the door. The burly warrior—his reactions akin to those of a steel trap—dodged most of the blast, but his companions were not so lucky. Shards of stone shrapnel lanced through the party, grievously injuring many of them.
Through the dust, Gromm and Thonn staggered into the chamber beyond the now destroyed door. A short passageway gave into another chamber. Dusty treasures covered the floor there, but the adventurers were not alone—two wights were stirring themselves to life.
Battle was joined, and the wights proved to be dangerous opponents. However, the shining divine might of Harald, paladin of Darlen, was too great for the foul abominations, and the two were destroyed.
Several of the party were by now badly injured, and so the heroes decided to rest in the cave.
This proved a bad plan. No sooner had the heroes settled down to sort through their newly acquired loot and rest when a band of four troglodytes—no doubt attracted by the recent loud explosion—fell upon the party.
Striking with the element of surprise, the first the party knew of their enemies’ presence was Harald (who had been on guard) collapsing beneath two of the noxious beasts’ attacks. Ozloc incapacitated two of the troglodytes with a sleep spell and Gromm rushed forwards to stand over his fallen friend. In mere moments, the rest of the party stood with him; the troglodytes were slain, and Harald saved.
This second fight had taxed the party, and so they again decided to rest in the cave, This, again, proved an unwise decision…
